Many people think that a funnel is something  used to fill a tank with gas,  oil, or some other liquid product. But a sales funnel is completely different, it’s something foreign to most people even marketers today

A network marketing funnel, or sales funnel, consist of a series of steps to turn prospects into customers. To set up a funnel many people think that you start out at the engagement and map out a course to the destination. It can be a complex concept, but really it should be something that makes your marketing easier not more difficult.

It’s important to start at the destination!

There’s many different ways to set up a sales funnel, some are much more complex than others. But really the most important aspect in setting up a sales funnel is to start at the end destination. Even though your thinking might move you to start with your engagement, you want to start off considering the outcome first.

If you look at a picture of a sales funnel you’ll notice that your focus is drawn to the largest area first, hence your mind starts working on how to formulate that part of the final before you move on. But if you’re just starting out especially in network marketing that’s a big mistake.

It’s important that you start focusing on something that’s not quite so obvious, the little area at the bottom of the sales funnel. The destination, the goal for your prospects.

What is the illumination at the end of your funnel? It’s the call to action!

So what exactly do you want your network marketing to achieve?

Probably sales. Consider when you are mapping out your sales funnel effectively you will need to get a  little more specific than just sales. Remember the more obscure your target is the less likely you are to achieve it. Your call to action, will look different than someone else’s, depending on the business your operating.

For example if you have a construction based business it depends on attracting long-term clients who will regularly use your ability to build things, providing a  service to them. Meaning your destination will be landing contracts with them.

Or possibly you want to sell a variety of products. Making it hard to find a focal point for your first sales funnel because your business covers a large array of products. But imagine for a moment your prospects, try to understand what’s in their mind. Perhaps there is one product that will stand out in your inventory, one that could be a focal point for everyone entering your funnel.

When you know what you want your marketing funnel to achieve. Then you need to calculate the number of prospects or sales it takes to earn a profit each month, or to grow your list to that size that you need.

Take note of that number it’s going to help you make decisions and how to construct the rest of your funnel, putting you on track for success.

Now that your destination is set you have a focal point you can look backwards into your funnel and determine the next step.

What will it take to accept your call to action?

How can you actually get them to act on the information you have given them?

This is probably the last page that they see before they make that call to action, you could say that it’s your destination page or a checkout page. At this point in your funnel is where there is just one answer for your prospect, and needs to be something that engages them to act. This is where your funnel can either be a simple call to action, or something that’s much more complex. To determine this we need to look further up the funnel towards the beginning and talk about engagement.


The midpoint in your funnel how are you going to offer your engagement?

Imagine you’re trying to sell an instruction video. Possibly you could offer a link to a webpage about your video where they would be able to click through to a shopping cart and purchase it.

This might work for someone that has a huge existing following where they’ve built up trust and expertise. But if you’re not one of the best video makers out there you probably need to give people a little more content with your offer, you need to engage them.

One way to be engaging to people is by giving them a free sample. Showing What you have to offer like a trailer to a video if they like it then they will be motivated to make a purchase because they have become engaged in your funnel.

So for your video it’s good to step back a step from the product page and create a landing page. This lets people opt in for a free download of a trailer in exchange for their email address. And this gives you the opportunity to engage them later if they fail to act.

Another step you could take is to write a blog post about your video and the topic it contains, then link that to your free download page as well.

Now landing pages and blog posts aren’t the only ways you have to engage people, as a matter of fact they rarely stand alone. For example, if someone ops in for your free video trailer download, it’s a good idea to use the email address they provided to email them with more information on how to buy your full video. You might even want to create a series of emails which depends on how much additional engagement you think it will require for your prospect to make a call to action.

Now as you reach higher and higher into your funnel nearing the top it starts to get wider and wider because the ability you have to get 100% of the ones entering your funnel and staying focused to the bottom is less likely to happen. Which brings us to the wide part of your funnel the opening.

The law of attraction how does the opening of your funnel work?

Where do the people come from that are reading your blog posts, viewing your landing pages, making purchases from you? These are the ones that are coming from your traffic sources the top of your funnel.

What is a traffic source? A traffic source is anything that attracts people to the entrance of your funnel that were they become familiar with what you are promoting. It’s when you change a stranger into an engaged prospect.

Where do traffic sources come from? They can come from a variety of places either online or off-line places like:

  • Web search queries
  • Social media sites like Facebook, twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, or other places like this.
  • Press release advertising
  • Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising on things like Facebook ads or Google ad words

Mastering these traffic sources can be either focused on just one or two of them, or engaging many depending on your level of expertise. Remember there’s always room for further education and fine-tuning later. You don’t need to master them all immediately.

Since you have been working from the bottom of your funnel to the top you know that the most important thing is where your traffic is ending up.

This fact is what’s gonna put you ahead of most amateur marketers. For example now you know that you shouldn’t be directing your traffic to a home page or to a huge product inventory page, you know these kinds of pages don’t usually present a clear opportunity for engagement! You are going to be directing your traffic to the point of engagement. The lead page that’s focused on your product, or a blog post that specific about an item. In this process you’re going to lead your prospect to the next step of your funnel, and in turn to the next step, and then the next, right down to your big goal the call to action at the end.

So now that I have a funnel laid out how do I activate it?

Now that you have your funnel laid out from the bottom to the top, starting with the bottom going up to the middle and then reaching the top of your funnel you need to fill in the details. We could call this a micro funnel or campaign funnel.

This campaign funnel or micro funnel has three components:

  1. A landing page, it doesn’t matter if someone is coming from one of your traffic sources, or from an engaging content from one of your blog posts. Leads wind up here to accomplish one of two things, either to opt into the next stage of your funnel or to make a purchase.
  2. A call to action or purchase point, this would consist of a simple opt in form that allows your visitors to sign up for whatever you have to offer, at the same time giving you the contact information for you to engage them later.
  3. I think you page, some think this is optional but to leave this out would be missing out on a big advantage. If you don’t present an effective thank you page after each key step, you’re missing out on a great opportunity. To ask your new leads to take the next step right then and there for example, you could use a thank you page to link to your product page and bring visitors to the end of your funnel, or possibly to ask your prospects to share your offer on their social media, giving you more traffic.

Now when someone comes from one of your traffic sources to your first landing page, they move swiftly through a micro funnel you have created. Later when someone clicks through from an email to a product page that you have featured they move swiftly through another micro funnel.

Now every point whenever you need someone to say yes to something online, you present them with the precisely developed micro funnel.

Just add your traffic sources, emails, and other connecting elements, and you have a funnel that moves people toward your big goal, and at the end it’s done effectively efficiently and logically.
